response device (direct mail)

Any medium supplied to a direct-mail recipient to facilitate a response to an offer. Such devices include business reply cards and envelopes, order forms or coupons, and toll-free telephone numbers or the stamps supplied by some marketers.

The loose response device has been found to be up to three times more effective than one that must be cut or torn from another enclosure.
